                Poor Folks Home Journal
The Online Magazine For The Lower Classes

Issue #1                              January 2015 Issue

                                                               Introduction
Welcome to the first issue of the online magazine for the lower class folk otherwise known as "Poor" Folk. In this magazine you will find inexpensive meals, housekeeping hints using everyday items found around the house and on sale at the "Dollar Store" or "99 Cent Store" or even things you can legally buy with your EBT Card and not feel guilty about buying. Our writing "Staff" are all lower income folk who skrimp and save every penny that they earn but still have the money to feed their families, clean their homes, clothes and bodies, have money for transportation and still have money to attend an occasional film (Hint: Dollar Cinemas or in certain cities, Drive-Ins and "Dollar Store" Treats) Also There Is A Special Segment from time to time to help folks beat their cable bill (Roku, Rabbit TV or Over Air Antenna Television are all ideas)
I have often dreamed of creating a Magazine for the lower class folk with recipes, homemaking ideas and shopping ideas on a budget, but the printing costs were extremely high, but now thanks to the internet, I can finally make that dream come true. And now with no further ado, I give you the premier issue of "Poor Folks Home Journal"

                      CLEAN AS A WHISTLE
                    CHEAP AS THE DICKENS
In this section I will bring you some cheap as heck cleaning supplies and what to clean with them, This Issue I will focus on just one household cleaning hint as not to go through all of them in this first issue.

Baking Soda.

Keep an open box of baking soda in the fridge to stave off the smell of overripe produce.
To reduce garbage odor, sprinkle the bottom of the garbage can with baking soda.
To clean surfaces, sprinkle baking soda on a damp cloth. Wipe, then rinse with clean water.
To remove stubborn stains from most surfaces, use a baking soda paste (Three Parts baking soda to One Part water). Apply, let stand until dry, then scrub or wipe clean.
To clean thrift store silver, use a paste of three parts baking soda to one part water. Rub the paste onto each item, then rinse with warm water and dry with soft cloth.
To remove burnt on food from the bottom of pans, sprinkle with baking soda then add hot water. Let soak over night, the dried-on gunk will come off with less scraping.
To help prevent clogged drains, pour 1/4 cup baking soda down your drains weekly. Rinse thoroughly with hot water.

Cooking for Less

In this section we will bring you some great recipes for very cheap that will feed a whole family for a whole lot less than a night out at White Castle.
First off I want to tell you folks the secret I myself have to cheaper milk that is just as tasty and good for you as fancy store bought gallons of milk.
Buy two cans of Evaporated Milk, You can get these for as cheap as 79 cents at Aldi's or Save-A-Lot.
Rinse out a Gallon Jug from distilled water (Don't use a milk jug, we're trying to save you money here, silly!)
Fill the jug 3/4 way full with cold water.
Empty your two cans of Evaporated Milk into the jug of water.
Add 1 tablespoon white sugar and just a dash of Vanilla Flavoring.  You've just made a Gallon of Milk for about $1.75 or less!
Soup Beans
Take some white beans, cover with water and some baking soda. Bring to a boil. The water will turn yellow as bile. Pour off the water and repeat the process. Pour off the second water, rinse a bit. Add fresh water, some hunks of ham bone and bring to a boil, cover and let simmer till time to serve. No need to soak the beans over night. The baking soda will take the meaness out of the beans. Soup Beans are even better if cooked the day before. Things after the second heating are always more flavorful, ain't they?
Covered Dog Pizza
1 package Hot Dogs
1/2 lb sharp cheddar cheese
Oregano
12 hamburger buns
Split Rolls. Chop up the hot dogs and cheese all together. Spread on rolls and sprinkle with oregano. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes. Makes 24.
Meat Loaf
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1 cup tomatoes, diced
2 pounds ground beef
1/2 onion, chopped
1/4 cup bell pepper, diced
2 1/2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons Worcestershire Sauce
Pinch of Oregano
Soak the bread crumbs in the tomatoes until soft. Mix with the meat, onion, pepper and seasoning. Mold the mixture into a loaf and put it into an oblong baking pan. Bake the loaf at 350 degrees for approximately 90 minutes. Not only is this loaf delicious on a Sunday, it's even better the next day as sandwich meat.

Entertainment For The Poor

If you are lucky enough to have the internet, YouTube is a wonderful place to see many movies for $2.99 or even FREE!
Rabbit TV Is a great way to see hundreds of channels and thousands of movies for only $10.00 a year, yes you need a debit or credit card, but do you know how easy it is to get a debit card for $4.99 or even FREE? All you need to fill them is to purchase a Green Dot Card available at almost any Family Dollar, Dollar General or Chain Supermarket.
If you are able to afford $59.95-$89.95, A Roku is the way to go. With thousands of channel options at $9.99- 99 cents a month and about twice that many for free, it is much more thrifty than cable or a satellite dish.
If you just can't afford paying a monthly Roku or Yearly Rabbit TV Bill but just have to have Television, WalMart, Target and Big Lots offer a HD Box for as little as $29.95, coupled with a $9.95 antenna, you can pull in anywhere from 20 to even 40 channels depending on what city and state you live in.
SEE YOU ALL NEXT MONTH
LIVE CHEAP!
